![]() PS: I was impressd with the output from the R1800 in our tests - on glossy/luster/semi-gloss and on matte (which was a surprise). Here's a 2400 review if you haven't seen it: If I had an available space to dry and spray prints, I may have gone with an HP (the ink carts, while expensive, have the heads built in so there's never any clogging, which would be nice). ![]() ![]() Downsides are limited paper choices and water soluable inks that take a while to dry and should be put behind glass our sprayed ASAP after drying. Have you considered an HP? Either the 8750 of DJ 30 or 90? They produce great prints and the 8750, like the 2400, will produce very fine B&W prints without a RIP. Too bad image life is anything but "archival". ![]() The 1280 had a certain "wow" factor the other printers lacked - more intense, brighter colors. We used a number of different papers and the same color image. I am worried about the ink wastage/costs associated with swapping between photo/glossy and matte black inks but I'm reluctantly willing to deal with that since I'm hoping I can organize my printing to minimize ink change overs.Īs for the 1280, boy, it makes beautiful, dye based prints - but they don't last long Our local photo group just did a "print off" between a number of different printers including the R1800, 2200, HP DJ 130, Epson 10000, Epson 4000 and Epson 7600. HP DJ30, HP 8750 and refurb 2200 were:ġ) Reportedly very respectable B&W ability without having to use a RIP (either inexpensive - QuadTone RIP, or expensive - ImagePrint RIP).Ģ) Pigment based, "instantly dry," water resistant inks (as oppsed to the HPs)ģ) Ability to use many different paper typesĤ) Less bronzing, less metamarism than 2200 (very important to me - you could buy a hugely expensive RIP for the 2200 to minimize these things tho) What tipped the scales for me when deciding between an R1800, R2400. Hi Dick, My new R2400 landed on my doorstep last week, a day before heading out east for a family vivist so i haven't had a chance to play with it yet.
